Why is Gran Turismo 6 not on PS4?
Sony has remarked on why Gran Turismo 6 is heading to PlayStation 3 instead of PS4, saying that the PS3’s install base of 70 million units is much more appealing than starting from scratch on PS4. The announcement of Gran Turismo 6 so shortly after the PlayStation 4 was announced had some fans scratching their heads.
Why wouldn’t Polyphony aim this graphical showpiece as a debut title for the next-generation console? The answer, perhaps unsurprisingly, seems to come down to sales potential. Speaking to the PlayStation EU Blog, SCEE CEO Jim Ryan talked about squeezing the juice out of the PS3, before quickly turning toward talking about the install base.
“You had GT1 and GT2 on PS one, GT3 and GT4 on PS2, then there’s GT5 on PS3 and a space next to it. The difference between Gran Turismo and GT2 is unbelievable, but they’re both on the same platform,” Ryan said. “The difference between GT3 and GT4 is huge.
We’re absolutely confident when GT6 comes, you’ll see a big step change up from GT5 too. There’s still a lot of potential on PS3 that a developer like Polyphony can really exploit. “And the other factor is that on PS3 we have an install base of 70 million units. On PS4 on launch day we’ll have an install base of zero units.
There’ll be plenty of games to help drive PS4 – not least Driveclub in the racing genre from Evolution Studios, a studio with a fantastic pedigree.” That doesn’t mean the game will never reach PS4, however. Polyphony president Kazunori Yamauchi has already said that it has a PS4 version in mind “for the future,” but wanted to focus on the PS3 version for this holiday season.

Is Gran Turismo 7 good for beginners?
Due to the heavy emphasis that it places on realism, Gran Turismo 7 can be a little intimidating at first, at least for those who are new to the racing sim genre, anyway. It’s not the kind of game that one can just pick up and play, with players first needing to wrap their heads around how all of the different driving mechanics work.
With a little perseverance though, it actually ends up being a pretty good introduction to the genre. That said, during the opening few hours of Gran Turismo 7 ‘s single-player campaign, novice players may find themselves getting frustrated; both with the game and with themselves. These tips and tricks should help to make the experience a little more palatable, however, while also helping players to avoid some of the more common beginner mistakes,

Is Gran Turismo 7 still worth it?
Gran Turismo 7 isn’t just the best entry in the long-running series, it sets the bar astronomically high for all future racing sims. Single-Player Campaign – Though Gran Turismo 7 doesn’t really have a story to speak of, it does feature a pretty expansive single-player campaign. A little like Pokemon, the main aim is for players to build up their collections, while also winning the occasional competition.

Why is Gran Turismo 7 only online?
Image: Sony PlayStation racing sim Gran Turismo 7 has been offline for maintenance for over a day. Normally, that wouldn’t be a huge deal, but because so much of the game requires an online connection, including a great deal of single-player content, fans have effectively been locked out of Sony’s latest console exclusive.
- Gran Turismo 7 ‘s developers announced it would undergo extended server maintenance on Twitter early on March 17.
- Over 24 hours later, the game is still offline.
- Due to an issue found in Update 1.07, we will be extending the Server Maintenance period,” the team revealed later in the day.
- We apologize for this inconvenience and ask for your patience while we work to resolve the issue.” It’s still not clear what the issue with the latest update was or what impact if any it could have on players’ existing save data.
What is clear is that GT7 fans haven’t been able to play the game outside of its arcade mode, and they’re pissed about it. Despite having lots of single-player content, GT7 follows a live service model, making much of it inaccessible without being able to login.
This includes the main campaign and the extensive garage of vehicles players have unlocked. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi told Eurogamer the online requirement was to “prevent cheating.” G/O Media may get a commission As of this morning, update 1.8 was starting to become downloadable for some players, but the game remained offline.
Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment. While this modern inconvenience has become commonplace, the extended outage has led players to reevaluate our current always online hellscape. The 2013 launch of the Xbox One was mired by Microsoft’s attempt to design the console to require a constant internet connection to authenticate players’ games and data.
- The company eventually reversed course, but not before rival Sony went on a now infamous counter-marketing offensive where it joked about how all players would need to do to share games on PlayStation 4 was to give each other the disc.
- PS4 disc-based games don’t need to be connected online to play’ THUNDEROUS DEAFENING APPLAUSE,” The PlayStation Twitter account wrote at the time,
Frustrated players have now been resurfacing the tweet in light of the recent outage. “How about Gran Turismo 7 ?” wrote one user shortly after the game’s maintenance was extended. Meanwhile, longtime critics of online DRM have jumped on the outage to remind people of the future that ultimately awaits all games that don’t have robust offline modes.
“Perhaps folks can understand why I’ve been against online DRM in games/hardware,” wrote Digital Foundry’s John Linneman. “There are many other games and hardware which are tied to server connectivity that may not always be there.” Developer and retro game YouTuber ModernVintageGamer was more succinct : “Fuck DRM.” Update: 3/18/21, 11:15 p.m.
ET: The game’s servers are back online and Yamauchi has posted an update on the GT7 website explaining the issues in more detail. “Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5,” he wrote,
“This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update.” Yamauchi apologized for the downtime but mention criticisms of the game’s online DRM.
He did say the development team is taking a closer look at how grindy the game is. Players have been critical of how microtransaction heavy it is despite not being free-to-play, a common theme these days,
Does Gran Turismo 7 have off road?
Jump around – There are three off-road venues; Sardenga Windmills, Fisherman’s Ranch, and Colorado Springs. While the layouts for these tracks and series of bumps and jumps look like they should lead to good racing, they just don’t. Landing off a jump, even a small one, can bounce the car in an almost random direction.
- It isn’t just the players that this happens to either.
- AI cars get caught in all kinds of awkward bounces, at times nearly being thrown onto the roof.
- This comes on top of troubles flicking the cars through hairpins or maintaining momentum through sections.
- For those that have played DiRT Rally 2.0 or the WRC series, there’s a flow that you get into with these off-road and rally-style races but Gt7 simply doesn’t allow for that.
All it means is that off-road racing is a chore. Throw in the fact that you have to engage with it through the GT Cafe if you want to keep unlocking locations and earning cars.
